Your footnote will automatically be inserted.

Copyright Issues

In class I'll show you a sample 'video' I made with PhotoStory. You can use pans and special effects to add movement to still photos. I used the built-in music utility instead of using copyright protected material without permission. You should do the same for your Historica Fair projects.

If you see an image on a website that you would like to use, you should ask the owner for permission. For student projects, many sites are very helpful and will give permission. In turn, you must plan ahead and ask for permission in advance. In high school, you will need to submit projects incorporating other people's pictures with emailed letters of permission from your sources. If you think you are ready for this step, see me about getting a sample permission request letter that you can adapt for your own use. It's not that difficult and it's good practice for writing official letters (like applications for summer jobs) that you might need in the future.

Please note the links on this page to royalty-free photos and music. You may use them without asking for permission but you should credit your source in each case.

Happy researching.

Have a Happy March Break

Have a great break folks. I have posted some links that you might be able to use for Historica Fair, or just for fun. MovieMaker, PhotoStory etc. are good for editing your video clips or pics into a video. You can add music to your pics in both programs but PhotoStory is best if you want to make your still photos 'move' with special effects. In Movie Maker, you can add music as well as dialogue/ narration to a combination of clips and pics.

Have fun,

MW

Historica Fair is coming! Choose your topic...

Historica Fair is coming. The fair is a celebration of Canadian heritage and student achievement. Get ready to display your research skills, creativity and talent for presentation.
The actual competition takes place May 1 and 2. Your projects will be due by mid-April. Please start thinking about your contribution soon. One good place to start is the information package you will receive in class. Another is: histori.ca fairs or www.histori.ca/.

Remember to choose a topic on a Canadian theme. Choose the format of your project by consulting the possibilities in your information package. There are many different kinds of possibilities to suit your strengths and interests. You should also decide whether to work alone or with one partner. Once you have made your choices, meet with me to record your topic and format. We want to avoid any duplication.

Happy researching,

Ms W.
